Scarlett Johansson Sues Disney for ‘Black Widow’ Streaming Release

Black Widow

Scarlett Johansson stars in what could be her most taxing character so far, ‘plaintiff.’ Recently, the actor filed a case against Disney. She claimed the company breached her consensus with Marvel that promised Black Widow a unique dramatic release.

The story behind this is that, at the beginning of this month, the film was featured in theaters by Disney on its streaming service Disney+ for an extra $30. Black Widow made $80 million during its weekend launch at the box office, making history during the pandemic season. But, it was not big enough for a Marvel film.

To state the obvious, Spiderman: Far from Home (2019) made $185 million within its first-weekend launch.

Nevertheless, Black Widow earned a considerable sum of money outside the theaters and $60 million from Disney. Thus, the figure was too much for Johansson to comprehend, and she got annoyed. That is because her salary is mostly yoked with box office achievement, which the current indoor release could have drained off.

Disney replied Johansson and said that the claim was ‘‘particularly pathetic and upsetting in its heartless indifference for the dreadful and lengthened global effects of the Coronavirus pandemic.’’

Great concept: Firms like Disney have shoved billions of money into the streaming conflicts. The Scarjo lawsuit indicates that the axle to streaming has second-order consequences. And that includes how movie stars should be paid that entertainment colossus is yet to contend with.
